Sicily | The Most Beautiful Beaches, Restaurants and Ice Cream

I can still remember our Sicily trip 8 years ago very well. While typing the post, I can smell the grilled shrimps and fish. I can see our waiter, Vincent – we visited him everyday. Some people on Instagram asked me about some tips for Sicily. Today I want to tell you about the beaches, the restaurants and the best icecream. Note: Since our trip took place some time ago, I can’t guarantee if my experiences are still up to date.

Sicily  Travel Guide

General Information

The best travel time is at the end of June or in July. In August the Sicilians celebrate the „Siesta“, which means there will be a lot going on. July was rather quiet. The weather was awesome.

  • Departure Airport: Letisko Bratislava
    Arrival Airport: Catania
Airline: Sky Europe (quit in 2009)
  • We stayed for 14 days.
  • You can find flights for 200 EUR on Skyscanner
    Air Berlincharges about  350 EUR
Alitalia seems to be the cheapest airline

The Sicilian Beaches

The prettiest beach is the San Vito Lo Capo! Aquamarine water, light sand, few tourists. A lot off little bays are found in the Natural Reserve Lo Zingaro. The Bue Marino beach was awarded the most beautiful in Italy in 2015. The next island Favignana also has great beaches and the sea looks beautiful. The Scala dei Turchi offers white stonewalls and crystalclear water. You can pay a visit to Mondello as well.

You can buy tons of fruit or drinks at the beach. I think I ate about 3 coconuts a day. There is a nice Cocktail bar at the beach called Eighteen Hours food & beverage. You can get cocktails and live music. It’s pretty crowded at night. This bar is the beginning of the Via Savoia.

On this street you will find tons of restaurants if you go towards the Mother Church. We tried a lot of restaurants and the first two restaurants next to the bar were the best. Vincent also worked in one of those restaurants. I’m not sure if the owners are still the same though.

On the other side of the street there are shops like Calzedonia or crocs. I do own a pair of crocs by the way. Next to the church there is the Cafè Savoia. You will get the best icecream there.

Recommendations for Sightseing and City

We didn’t only stay at the beach. You can visit the Natural Reserve Lo Zingaro. The bay there is as wonderful as the environment. Note that the promenade is about 7km long. You have to walk a lot. The road is really narrow and bumpy, but it’s worth the walk.

The cities Palermo and Catania are great to visit as well. In Palermo you will be tested for culinary openness. The products at the market along the Via Ballarò are exotic, yummy, fresh and fascinating, as well as disgusting, unhygienic and they may make you puke. Sorry, but the smell of spices mixed with raw meat (numskull and intestines) and fried sweets is really a lot to bear. Just google „Market Palermo“.

I can’t recommend you to visit the Ätna. Since the volcano is active you won’t see that much. Most of the time you can’t go any further up, because it’s too “foggy”. If you’re far away you can see much more. That’s what happened to us.

The fish market Pescheria Billeci in San Vito Lo Carpo is really worth seeing and the prices are good as well. We often bought fish or shrimps to grill at our apartment.
