My Tips Against Jetlag – What Really Helps?


Some of you might know: After arriving to your holiday destination – you’ll be tired as hell. Day and night feel mismatched. This is time zone hangover. With my tips you will feel better.

Definition: Biorhythm is an revolving cycle, which seems to influence a persons physical and psychic condition. It consists of the digestion and the sleeping cycle, your temperature, hormones and exhaustion. When flying we cross different time zones. Our inner clock can’t keep up. Result: Jetlag.

Tipps gegen Jetlag

  • Tip 1 – Adapt to the time zone directly

When you’re arriving, you should adapt to the time zone, which means: If you arrive in the evening, then go to sleep. When you arrive in the middle of the day, try to stay awake until sleeping time. If you don’t you will drag out your jetlag even further.

  • Tip 2 – Don’t sleep on the plane all the time

If you’re sleeping during your flight and arrive at night, you will have a problem. It will make your jetlag worse. Since I’m not sleeping well on a plane anyway – this is not a big problem for me. It always depends on when you are arriving. If you arrive in the early mornings, it’s okay to sleep!

  • Tip 3 – Do sports.

If you already can guess that you won’t be able to sleep that night, go do some sports. Take a walk or do some exercise. It’s also helpful to do some sports outside to get some fresh air. Don’t overdo it, because your body is already stressed by the flight.

  • Extra Tip 4 – Hungry?

If you’re hungry at an unusual time, try to eat just a little portion/snack and wait for the normal mealtime.

  • Extra Tip 5 – Daylight will help

Stay outside – the daylight will impede the melatonin production (sleeping hormone) in your body – so your body can adapt better to the day. You’re not as tired.

That was it. My tips against jetlag. This is not a miracle cure – the most important thing is to adapt to your destination directly. The easiest way is to fly to the south instead of east or west… it’s the same timezone.
