Anti Packinglist: 10 things you can leave at home!

As important as packing is, not over packing is also important. You can find my packing guide and checklist here. A lot of things on this Anti-Packing List are also on my packing guide, because everyone is different. You’re either travelling around the world or you’re doing a citytrip or you’re on a club holiday. So packing is very personal, do you know what I mean? Now back to anti-packing. In the last few months, I’ve travelled a lot – sometimes only with my hand-luggage. But even then I take too much with me. This is my Top 10 List of things, you can leave at home or at least bring less of:

  • 1. Travel Guides or Books

If you only have hand luggage or a backpack with you, leave this at home. Do you own a smartphone? There are so many travel apps showing you the way, great restaurants, bars and cafés. You can also buy eBooks instead and take them with you on your phone. You’ll save a lot of space in you luggage.

  • 2. Umbrella

I’ve packed an umbrella so many times without even using it then. I fit starts raining you can search for shelter or borrow an umbrella from your hotel.

  • 3. Towels

My God, I’ve packed these way too often! Sometimes even several towels. I don’t even know why – you always get towels in hotels!

  • 4. Hairdryer

Same with the towels – you’ll get towels in every hotel.

  • 5. Shampoo & Shower Gel

My Tip: Either leave this at home or buy this at your destination. Most of the time there will be some products in your bathroom. If you prefer your own products you can fill them into tiny containers. I use this product.

If you want to read about 5 Must-Haves for the next citytrip, then take a look at ADVIZE. I’ve written a guest post. I would be very happy, if you take a look into the Zalando Fashion- und Lifestyle Guide. You can read my blogpost as well as a lot of other posts.

  • 6. Too Many Medications

It’s always possible that you’ll get sick or injured while traveling. We had a medical problem in Thailand. But you can also get charcoal tablets there without any problems. Just take the medications you need daily with you.

  • 7. Too Much Expensive Jewellry

Before each trip, I plan my outfits, so that I won’t take too much with me. I always want to combine jewellry to my outfits. But sometimes it’s too much. I always take too much jewellry with me even though I always wear the same.

  • 8. Shoes

This is my problem too – I always take too many shoes with me. You should always think twice about which shoes are worth it. Do you really need your hiking shoes?

  • 9. Evening Dresses

Leave your silken blouse or your sakko at home unless you really want to visit a Casino, a Skybar or another fancy Location. If you need something you can also buy it on-site and get a souvenir at the same time. If you want to take something with you from home, then just take one outfit.

  • 10. Insect Repellent

Yes, I’m leaving this at home as well, because the best insect repellents are available there.

There’s also a post on the topic on travelling with hand luggage. In this post you can read about packing your handbag and how you can save as much space as possible.
