Holiday at Millstätter Lake – Kärnten

Finally I got some time to tell you about my lovely and sporty weekend at Millstätter Lake in Kärnten. We used the weekend to explore the region around the lake to test this jewel. You will find everything (which was a lot) we did in this blogpost. Since this blogpost is really long and I took a lot of pictures, I decided to split it into two blogposts. I linked it down below. If you still have questions about our weekend, please feel free to ask me. I’m looking forward to your comments.

The region around the Millstätter Lake

» Our extraordinary accomodation:  Sleeping under the Stars in a BIWAKK

As mentioned above, we slept in a Biwak. Since this experience was so wonderful for me and I have so much to tell you – and I took several pictures (you may have seen it on Instagram gesehen), I decided to write a seperate blogpost about the sleepover. You will find all the information about our night under the stars. Click here to get to the Biwak-Blogpost. Don’t forget to come here to read the rest.

At the beginning of our trip we stayed at the Kleinsasserhof and had a wonderful dinner as well as a great breakfast. The Kleinsasserhof is very special and I have to tell you – you will either love or hate it.. We really liked it :-) If you ask yourself what I’m meaning, just google and take a look at the pictures. The whole house has tons of items and crazy figurines and has its own charme. I admit – I was a little sceptic at first – but I’m open no anything. The employees were very nice, and the service and food was great too. The Kleinsasserhof is one of the craziest restaurants in Austria and was awarded several times for their excellent cuisine! Just go along and be open for the  bizarre decorations and get an impression of this Insider Tipp!

» Hiking & Skiing:  Goldeck & Alpe-Adria Trail

We were very sporty and over the weekend, we climbed two mountains – okay that was a lie – we used the mountain railway halfway through to climb the Goldeck ;-) When we arrived above, we walked to the summit cross and enjoyed the crunchy sound of the snow as well as the view. The weather was so great that we were able to see the Großglockner (it’s about 150 km far away). Manuel got a really bad sunburn. After a great hiking trip and having food at the Mosthütt’l we returned. We didn’t want to do to much since the next hiking trip was planned for the day after.

The Granattoris at the other end of the lake. Starting from the Lammersdorfer Hut it’s a 8 Kilometer long hiking trail which is part of the Alpe-Adria-Trails. The mountain in the north of the Millstätter Lake is the biggest granite deposit of the alps – the Granattor on the summit indicates this. It’s really exhausting and I thought that we’d never arrive at the Granattor, but the view made up for everything. Looking back it was not as exhausting, because the trail is not very steep. I think that’s why this “Road of love” was awarded most popular hiking trail. So I can proudly announce that I climbed my first 2000m Yay!

» unique view & culinary delicacies:  Lammersdorfer Alm & Mosthütt’l

Hiking makes you hungry and that’s why we had lunch at Mosthütt’ after the activities at the Goldeck. We had a delicious Jause – with Es gab homemade butter, cheese, spreads, sausage and vegetables. Everything from their own production! Naturally I also got a big glass of lemon shandy! Since the weather was so great, we were able to sit outside on the terrace next to the stream. The cress for the bread was harvested directly at the brookside :-) What’s nicer than a meal on a mountain mit sunshine and good company?

After our hiking tour to the Granattor we were really hungry. Since the Lammersdorfer Alm is very wellknown and is said to serve the best Kaiserschmarren of the region, we really had to eat there. We ordered Kasnockerl and a gratinated toast as well as the freshly prepared Kaiserschmarren! Even when the preparation took pretty long (order the Kaiserschmarren right at the beginnign with your beverage – it takes around 25 Minutes or more) it was worth it!

Another great Restauranttipp KAP 4613

Since we still had some time on saturday afternoon, we visited KAP 4613 – the fireisland and pyramide at Millstätter Lake. The beachbar is directly at the lake promenade of the Millstätter Lake. Islandromance and sand as well as a relaxed ambience, nice music, mixed audience and wonderful sunsets! We had a glass of Aperol on the swimming bar and looked onto the lake to watch the sun go down. Corteous employees and good dishes are a given! Plan a visit herr – also in winter – it would be too bad to miss this view!

» Wellness at the lake:   1. Kärnten Bathing house in Millstatt

After walking so long it was time to test the Wellness Offer in Millstatt. There’s no better place than the 1. Kärnten Bathing house in Millstatt! In the bathing house there’s an allyear lakewellness directly at the water expecting you with a unique view on the Millstätter Lake. The view alone is already pure relaxation! A big Saunaarea as well as a heated Outdoor Pool is available too. You can also swim in the lake! Some people had the courage to jump into the 15 degrees cold water after leaving the sauna. We preferred the warm wster of the outdoor pool and refueled on energy! On the website of the bathing house you can find further information on all the saunas and a lot about the history of this bathing house as well as the landmark of Millstatt, the diving platform which was build in 1930.

» Dining differentely:   Fischer Tafel

To finish this trip we took part in the Fischer Tafel and had dinner with other guests at the penmuseum. We had a couple of hours with interesting topics at dinner with great wine. Our chef were Rainer Werchner, Teammanager of the “Kärntens Chef ClubKlub“ and Günter Walder, President of the already mentioned club. They served a great three course dinner for us. Additional to the Fisher Tafel there are other topics in the scope „Culinary environment in fall“ , Farmyard-Tafel or the Granat-Tafel You can find more information HERE.
