10 Tips for saving money for your holidays

The holiday season is known as the most beautiful time of the year. Recreation, adventure, relaxation and much more. Sounds great, huh? But unfortunately there is a hook – money. I think we all know what it feels like when there’s not enough money in the bank. With my 10 tips, you can easily save money for your next vacation. I hope you like the tips and they help you save a lot of money! If you have some more cool tips, just let me know in the comment section below!

My Top 10 Tips for Saving money
for Your Holidays

  • Automatic debiting from your bank account

I opened up an extra saving account. So when I get my paycheck, my bank transfers a certain amount (I set this amount) to my savings account automatically. This amount does not have to be very high but it will grow super fast as time goes on!

If you save 65 Euro each month, you will have 780 Euro by the end of the year.
If you save 10 Euro a week, you will have 520 Euro by the end of the year.

  • Less Starbucks and less Vapiano

You don’t have to go to Vapiano to enjoy a nice salad. If you made on yourself, you’d only pay like 70 Cent for the salad. But yes, I also love Vapiano and I like to go there! Their pasta is one of my favorites but I try to avoid visiting the restaurant everytime I see it.

  • Cleaning out!

With time, your closet gets super crowded and you won’t even be wearing half of it. One of the best ways to earn extra money is to sell your stuff online. Do you have a blog? Then put your stuff on Instagram, Facebook, Snapchat, Kleiderkreisel or eBay. There are so many different plattforms where you can sell your clothes. I try to clean my closet once a year.

  • Reduce extra credit card fees

You should use a credit card without extra costs like annual fees (I already posted a blogpost about this topic.) But there are different kinds of credit cards that are totally free and do not charge you for account management and so on.

  • Avoid the main season & holidays

So, you’ve always wanted to visit Barcelona? Then sit down and start planning your trip but don’t go in the middle of the summer, if you’re traveling out of season, you won’t have to pay so much for hotel, rental car or flights. You also won’t have to wait at the tourist attractions as long as in the main season. Win-win!

  • Food, Food & Food.

Yes, I know food is like the best thing ever and it’s important, but you don’t have to eat out every day. Try cooking at home with your freinds or your partner. It’s fun and it’s cheaper as well. You will save a bunch of money with this tip. Trust me!

  • The Hairdresser

Yes I know, I often go to the hairdresser, but not as much as 3 years ago. I used to go visit my hairdresser every 6-7 weeks. And everytime I was invited to a nice event, I wanted to feel pretty. So I visited the studio again. But there are tons of Youtube-Beauty-Blogger-Gurus who show you how to do your hair by yourself. After finding these, I only go to the hairdresser 3-4 times a year now.

I used to spend 1200 Euro a year for a hairdresser, now it’s only 500 Euro. So with this methode I save 700 euros and thats a great vacation I would say.

  • Sidejobs

If your job gives you the opportunity, maybe you can take a few side jobs as well. For example, in the summer try applying as a waitress at a special event. If you’re a student, maybe you can do some private tutoring. Don’t forget to inform yourself about the taxes you might have to pay.

  • Food again!

This is a really good tip that I got from my mother: Buy in season! Strawberries cost 3 times more in winter then in summer. You could also try to buy them directly from the field. Look for deals and check out your local farmers’ market. It’s cheaper and the quality is so much better.

  • Choose your destinations wisely

If you like to go on vacation, take your time while planning your trip and choose your dream destination wisely. I know I am a pretty bad example because I love far-away destinations like Bali, Maldives, etc. However, since my Thailand vacation, I’d always prefer Thailand to a tropical Maldives island because of the great prices. There are so many destination like Zakynthos, Sicily, Sardinia, Marbella or Formentor (looks like Bahamas.). So, your dream trip doesn’t have to be on the other side of the world! If you want to travel far away, then keep the other tips in mind and you can save a lot of money. I hope you liked my post. I’m interested in your saving methods L et me know in the comments!
