The Best Backpacks for Women & Men

If you don’t have the right equipment, your trip can get uncomfortable very fast. And since we are already planing our next Asia Trip, we knew that we’d need a backpack. To find a backpack is not so easy. You have to do a lot of research and try out several models and shops. A good backpack also costs a lot of money – this money will be a good investment and it will be there for years. Don’t try to skimp here.

There are a lot of pretty backpacks in all forms and colors – mostly for men. Backpacks for women seem to be rare. I already wanted to give up just starting this post, but I knew this would be a bad idea. So I sat down and put together some backpacks for you.

Backpack Ladies:  The Right Backpack
You should consider the following

As mentioned above, plan your research online far ahead. Write down some backpacks and visit a shop to try it on to get a feeling for a backpack. I put together some tips:

The size and the modell

The most important and first question for a backpack: How big should it be? Backpack measurements are in liter. Most of them are between 40-70 or over 100 Liter. As a beginner, I didn’t know what is right for me. But I recommend taking a smaller one. The big backpacks are for real adventurers that are traveling for very long. If I take a bigger backpack, I would take too many useless things. Choose something smaller – you have to remember that you have to drag the backpack along. I fell in love with a backpack that is 50 liters.

Where are you going?

It’s also important to remember where you are goin. You can’t buy a backpack for every holiday, but when you go on a trip to Iceland, Irelandor Scandinavia, you’ll need a bigger backpack since you have to pack a lot of warm clothes. Pullovers, jackets, tights and so on need a lot of space! Don’t take something smaller than 50-60 Liter!

You won’t need such a big backpack for a trip to Asia or other warm areas, but that depends on the travel time. If you’re only traveling for 2 months, you need less than if you’re traveling 6-12 Months. Back to the question – if you’re traveling to tropical climate zones, you only need summer clothes.

Do you take your backpack as hand luggage?

Here’s a important tip – if you’re rather minimalistic and hand luggage is enough for you, then take a backpack that fits as a carry-on. You can save a lot doing this his when booking a flight. If you have a big backpack, it’s still important to have a normal backpack. I copied this from Jon Olsson – he travels with his Douchebags backpacks and always hands in one and takes the other.

Normal holiday or Camping/Trekking/Hiking?

If you plan a trekking tour with your normal holiday, you should take a bigger backpack for your trekking equipment. Hiking backpacks have a lot of special belts, where you can carry a tent, a sleeping bag, walking sticks or more. These backpacks are cushioned much better.

The perfect color!

And this is the thing with women! The backpack needs to have a great color. I like colors that match everything. A grren or yellow backpack wouldn’t be good for me. I don’t want to stand out too much and those colors wouldn’t match anything. I think black and navy are the best. Dark grey, green or red are ok too. And they wouldn’t get dirty so fast.

The right material!

It’s important that the backpack is waterproof and robust! Don’t save money on your backpack and don’t buy a cheap one with cheap materials. The backpack will be thrown from one place to the other. As described above a cold and rainy climate is possible – and you AND your backpack need to withstand this. You can also order a raincover. It’s also good for your normal luggage.

Ladies’ Backpacks:
The best backpacks

Kelty Women`s Coyote 70

A slightly bigger backpack. As the name says, it’s 70 liters. The Coyote is fully equipped and ideal for tours. The belts are good for comfort. Don’t forget: the backpack looks great inf dark-grey and pink. You can take off the top and use it as a crossbody bag.

Topo Klettersack & Patagonia Arbor

I fell in love with this bag on Daria Daria. She showed the backpack on Instagram a couple of times. The backpack is good as a daily pack. It’s relatively small but it looks stylish and clean.

Deuter ACT Lite 50+10 Rucksack

The Deuter ACT Lite 50+10 Trekking backpack offers a lot of space, although it looks tiny. The Aircontact Lite System makes the backpack stable and self-ventilating. No sweat on your back! The shoulder pads are equipped with 3D AirMesh and help ventilation. You can also open this backpack in the front in case you need to search something on the ground.

Rucksack Yukon

The trekking-classic Yukon is available in 50, 60 and 70 Liters. Despite the size, the backpack guarantees a combination of lightness and robustness because of its material mix of Textreme 6.6 and T-Square Rip. Thanks to the openings, this Modell is ideal for women and men.

Douchebags Hugger 30L Rucksack

I saw and fell in love with this backpack via super Youtube Vlogger Jon Olsson. The Hugger 30L is a mixture of a robust skibag, duffle bag, and a clever backpack. It’s approved by IATA as handluggage. I also like that you can open the backpack in the front and use the hook-up system to attach it to bigger bags of Douchebags.
