Mobility in Bangkok | Eveything about public transport

Just like in my other blog post – which you can read »HERE – I want to tell you more about the public transport in Bangkok.

  • Domestic Flights

Many Thailand tourists don’t stay at the same place when visiting. The country is so great that you can see more than just one island. You can book via Bangkok Airways. We always booked this airline and it was really good.

The Service is great. Last year in Trat (Airport Koh Chang) we had super fast free Wifi, coffee, tea, ice tea, water, orange juice, cookies, sandwiches, muffins, fresh dim sum, nuts, refreshing tissues and more. There was a huge buffet at the Samui Airport as well – fresh popcorn, icecoffee, chocolate croissants and much more. This time I was allowed to test the Blue Ribbon Club Lounge. The internet access is fast and the place is airconditioned. You can order a fresh coconut, smoothies, fresh juices, wine, champaign and softdrinks. You can also order pancakes. Mmhh – yummy.

  • Taxi

You should know that Bangkok is a loud and chaotic city. Traffic, traffic jams and a lot of honking.

IMPORTANT: If you take a cab, take those with the „TAXI METER“ sign. A cab with a taxi meter – take a pink or a green cab. That sounds easier than it really is. Most taxi drivers will try to wrap you around their fingers and impose a price on you. Get out or away if the driver doesn’t want to use the taximeter. Taking a cab is not that expensive if you compare it to european prices. The price is 1€ basic fee and a price per kilometer. In a traffic jam you pay 2 baht per minute extra.

»Basic Fee: 35 Baht
»Traffic Jam (less than 6 km/h): 2 Baht per Minute
»Info: If you take the express way it will cost an extra fee. The driver will ask you if you want to take the express way.

DistancePrice per Kilometer
1-10 Kilometer5,50 Bath per Kilometer
10-206,50 Bath per Kilometer
20-407,50 Bath per Kilometer
40-608 Bath per Kilometer
60-809 Bath per Kilometer

  • Metro & Skytrain

To get to the weekend market I took the Skytrain. It’s like the metro just above the ground. You can buy a ticket at the starting station. You have to go through the barriers and scan your ticket – if you leave the station you have to scan the ticket again. The trains and the stations are clean and airconditioned. I was really surprise. I can recommend cabs to you. If you have to take a longer distance a cab is ideal.

  • Boat

It’s faster, cheaper and more exciting on a boat. There are canals in the city, where boats are ready for you. Don’t be scared. Not many tourists know about this. It’s so great! One ticket for the canal (Khlong Saen Saep) costs 8 Bath (20 Cents). The driver will show you the locals living places. To see this is very exciting. There are no traffic jams. The tiny boats in the canal are directed to the river (Chao Phraya). You can change into a bigger boat here. They will charge you 40 Baht (~1 EURO) per hour.

  • Ferry

If you don’t want to fly from island to island, you can take the ferry. There is also a ferry from Bangkok to Koh Samui and back. But it will take longer (9-10hours). We took the Lomphraya Ferry.

IMPORTANT: If you get sea sick easily you need to prepare yourself. Take a pill against sea sickness. When we drove from Koh Tao to Koh Samui, there was a monsoon a day before. The waves were really high. You can find the information about the ferries  »HERE.

  • Bike

You can also rent a city bike and drive around with it. Since I’m not such a adrenaline junkie and I didn’t want to be runover by some moped rider, I just went by foot. You will see a lot like this as well. I hope I didn’t forget anything. If you still have questions, just leave a comment.

 What about you?
  • Did you find the blogpost helpful?
  • Can you prepare for the holiday now?
  • When will you be in Thailand?
  • Which transport method did you use? Which one was the best?
I look forward to your comments and I wish you a nice day. Happy Travelling.
This Post is a cooperation with Bangkok Airways. My opinion is 100% authentic.
