Wow, it’s already 8 months ago that I wrote my first blog post on Vienna. Today’s post is an update and I gathered some tips for you. I tried to find different kinds of restaurants.
Viennan Coffee Shops
The traditional Café Diglas is in the first district. You can listen to piano music and enjoy a cake or a great apple strudel. The apple strudel is nearly as good as the classic Sacher Cake. You feel like travelling in time there. Sometimes Viennese also stop by– the café is always pretty full. You might have to wait very long.
The complete opposite is the Café Palmenhaus. It’s pretty and modern. The art nouveau makes this café to one of the prettiest and fanciest cafés in Vienna. It looks great from the outside and inside as well. The Palmenhaus is directly at the Hofburg and if you sit outside you can take a look into the castle garden. It’s hard to get a table in summer. Try the wine menu.
The Café Landtmann is very central – next to the town hall. You can reach it via tram or metro. Sigmund Freud, Romy Schneider, Marlene Dietrich, Paul McCartney and Hillary Clinton already went there. Franz Landtmann opened the restaurant in 1873. You might have to wait long. The Kaiserschmarren, the truffle cake and the cheese dumplings are so yummy!
You will find the Café Bar Bloom at An der Rotenturmstraße 15. I’m glad that this café opened after I changed my job to somewhere else, because otherwise I’d have left hundreds of Euros there. The Rooftop Bar is a highlight. I think it’s pretty expensive, therefore I prefer other cafés, but the coffee and cocktails are great and taste even better with the view.
Viennan Restaurants
If you want traditional Schnitzel, boiled fillet or beef soup, pay a visit to Plachutta. You have to book a table in advance. The restaurant is really popular, the prices are high. There are 6 Plachutta Restaurants in Vienna. Plachutta Wollzeile, Plachutta Hietzing, Plachutta Nussdorf, Plachutta at the Opera, Plachutta Grünspan in Vienna Ottakring and the Plachutta Mario.
The Neni is very popular as well. It was opened in 2009 and is by far the prettiest restaurant at the Viennese Naschmarkt. You can try Asian & Oriental cuisine. The cook has Israeli-Oriental roots. A lot of people love the Hummus and the Greek yoghurt. I personally like the Kebab and the Veggie Burger.
The Kussmaul is very hip and it surprises you with its creative cuisine. Nothing here is normal – even the salads have some special components. The staff is really attentive and trained well. The Kussmaul is a little expensive, but worth every Cent. The former chef of the Motto am Fluss, Mario Bernatovic, cooks there.
