Hi guys, in this post I want to tell you about my sleepover at a BIWAK Millstätter Lake. I think some of you might ask yourself what a Biwak is or what this word means. A Biwak is an outdoor camp. Even if it’s only a sleeping bag, a tent, a cave or a little hut. We had a wonderful wooden hut which was made from fragrant arolla pine and larch trees directly at the lake shore. The 7 Biwaks around the Millstätter Lake are directly at the beach in the middle of the green forest or more above on the Goldeck summit. Nearly all Biwaks are open all year long except the Biwak on the Goldeck summit and the one in the reeds are only open on christmas and NYE. The Biwak-Project was awarded in 2016 and supportet with 191.765 Euro by “Innovationsmillion”. And no worries – all the Biwaks are near the hotel, so that the guests can enjoy the service. The Biwaks all look same and are equipped equally. Inside there is a big and comfy bed, some storage space, a little table and two chairs as well as a bathroom with a toilet. The roof windows are the highlight and they enable a wonderful view onto the starry sky.

I recommend a stay in fall/winter. The sky is often cloudy in summer. A cold winternight is better for a magical starry sky. You can read about A stay HERE. We really want to come back and try the Biwak on the Goldeck Summit, when it’s winter and when there’s a lot of snow. I imagine it being really indescribable beautiful to est breakfast on the terrace and start the view with such a view.
I have to say that I really liked this concept and that I can understand that from the very beginning these Biwaks were booked by 60%. Sleeping there made an impression on me. I would have loved to stay longer and I can really recommend it. You should really try it. I’m sure that you’ll love it as well :-)
