Blue Lagoon Iceland – How to Protect Your Hair

If you travel to Iceland, a visit to the Blue Lagoon is a must! The water is warm, rather hot like in the tub, milky, and the environment is just like in a dream. It’s like heaven! On my last trip through Iceland, we visited the Blue Lagoon to relax. It was a really magic and an unforgettable visit!

In this blogpost I want to show you how to prepare for a visit and how you can prepare your hair from the water in the Blue Lagoon!

  • Bring your Own Shampoo and Conditioner

To prevent minerals from settling in your hair, bring shampoo and conditioner. If possible, bring one without proteins. After the bath in the Blue Lagoon you’ll need a care product that frees your hair from minerals and makes it soft again. If you don’t, your hair will be dry.

  • Wash Your Hair Before Entering the Water

In the Blue Lagoon you will be advised to wash your hair. If you wash your hair before going into the thermal bath, your hair will have less silicia, which makes your hair dry.

  • Put on Conditioner BEFORE Entering the water

If you let your hair get wet in the Blue Lagoon, than put on conditioner in your hair. Leave it in your hair and don’t wash ist! It’s also important to use the conditioner without a lot of proteins. Instead, use a moisturizing conditioner to make your hair soft.

  • Don’t Rinse Out Conditioner

As mentioned above, it’s important to leave the conditioner in. Your hair will be protected while bathing. No worries, you won’t be the only one doing this. And you won’t see the difference anyway.

  • Have Fun in the Water and Enjoy It!

Don’t be afraid of the water, nothing can happen! Your hair won’t turn yellow or green. In the beginnin,I wore a bun but it got annoying. I wanted to enjoy the Blue Lagoon and, so I just applied a lot of conditioner. This was great!

  • Shower & Wash Your Hair Thoroug

Once you leave the water, wash your hair 2-3 times. If you don’t want to take your products with you, there is free shampoo and conditioner. Your hair is used to your own products, so I recommend taking your own.

  • Reapply Conditioner

After washing your hair a few times, reapply conditioner again and let it rest. While letting it rest, I put on my bathrobe and walked around a little bit.

  • Shower Again and Rinse Out Conditioner

Back to showering again! Wash out the conditioner and let your hair dry with a towel. Let your hair air-dry, if possible, so that it won’t be irritated by the hot air.

  • Consider an Overnight Hair Mask

If your hair is still dry and irritated, consider putting some coconut oil on your hair or put on a mask and leave it on overnight. My hair was normal again after this process
