Citytrip Bordeaux – My Travel Diary

Bonjour guys! I’m back from my trip in France and I look forward to tell you about the capital of wine – Bordeaux :-) As you saw on my Instagram Account Instagram Account I visited this idyllic city with my Christina for the french tourismboard. Today I want to tell you about this wonderful weekend.

Citytrip Bordeaux

my extended weekend in the south-west of France

Last friday we took ASL Airlines ASL Airlines (which departs twice a week to Bordeaux in the time between 26. May and 04. September) from Vienna to Bordeaux. Finally I was able to take Christina on a trip :-) We already did a lot of shoots together and now it was time to do a trip together. A city trip was the perfect start! The flights was 2,5 hours long. The airport is not so far away from the city center. We took the bus to see a lot of the surroundings.

Our hotel, the La Maison du Lierre, which was really cute (you can see the pictures) and central was our first stop. I can really recommend this hotel. The room was very tiny, but furnished very nicely and clean. The employees were very friendly and the garden is a dream!! The only things you need to know – the breakfast was not so big. Those who love to brunch – this boutiquehotel won’t be fitting for you. Since we wanted to explore the city and all the cafés (which you really should do) anyways – it will be fine.

We planned a big Sightseeing Tour on saturday. After doing a lot of research about all the sightseeings of this city, we knew that the Place de la Bourse with its fountains was the perfect starting point for our Sightseeing-Tour. Place de la Bourse is at the shore of the Garonne. The huge building is really a piece of art and due to the fountains across the street it looks even bigger. The 2cm high water on the granite magically transforms this place into a playground for children, a wonderful photolocation for lovers and bloggers *gg* or a great refreshment when the weather is hot.

Starting from the Place de la Bourse it’s worth it to walk along the Garonne. The city is a world cultural heritage since 2007. There are a lot of sights like the cathedral Saint-André, which is one of the highest buildings in France with its 127meters! Near to Place de la Bourse, you can find the Grand Théâtre of Bordeaux, an unbelievable pillarbuilding is home to the Opèra National de Bordeaux nowadays.

Sightseeing makes you really hungry, that’s why we had brunch at Café Palo Alto. What can I tell you – the food was really yummy and the interieur is a dream! I have a weakness for beautiful cafés! That’s why we visited the Banana Café – which was also a recommendation by the Tourism Board in Bordeaux. The Smoothies and the Strawberry-Pancakes were really delicious! I gathered a lot of pictures for you and I’ll write extra blogposts about the Cafés :-) So make sure to come here in the next few days, then you won’t miss an article. But now back to our Sightseeing Tour. We saw many more things than the attractions mentioned above.

At noon we relaxed and got lost in the streets of St. Michel. We crossed the Basilique St Michel. When doing our research we found out that there’s a huge flea market here every sunday. We really had to visit it too!! I found something and I couldn’t resist to buy a souvenir for myself from Bordeaux. From the Basilique we continued to the parc – the Jardin Public. What can I tell you, the parc is really beautiful! As well as the botanical garden. You really have to visit the parc, when coming to Bordeaux. It was wonderful to sit on the lawn and to observe the children on the carousel.

In the evening we had dinner at the Le Tequin. The menu looked very fine and after thinking some time I decided for the fish. Oh God and the Dessert – that was awesome! As well as the Bordeaux Wine. Those who come here are entitled to try one of the delicious Bordeaux Wines! My lovely friend Christina is not only a great photographer but also a wine connoisseur! I took the right person with me. I put together a little choice of very good wines from Bordeaux – due to her experience Christina can recommend these wines.

Wine recommendation BORDEAUX

We put together some of these great Bordeaux Wines, which are all outstanding. The label of the 2014 La Croix de Beaucaillou was newly designed by Jade Jagger (Mick Jaggers daughter) in 2009. A jewel for every wine lover!

2014 Petit Gravet Aíne ] [ 2014 Saintayme ] [ 2014 Brown Rouge ] [ 2014 Brown Rouge Magnum ] [ 2014 Nenin ] [ 2014 La Croix de Beaucaillou Cuvée Colbert ] [ 2014 Montlandrie ] [ 2014 Montlandrie Magnum ]

We stayed at the flea market for quite some time – it was very hot on this day, so we sat down on a bench with some icecream at the Garonne and looked at the people walking by. I could do this for hours. That was the whole plan for sunday. We returned to the hotel and took a different route through the old town to see even more of Bordeaux. Every corner of the city is really clean, has great architecture to offer and the flair of the streets was great. You can find a lot of sweet Cafés to stay at.

If you search for a great and versatile city – which is not full of tourists – Bordeaux would be really recommendable. You can win two flights to Bordeaux HERE. Click here and answer the question and maybe you’ll get lucky. I was surprised by all the attractions and the beautiful city! And now I wan’t to show you some more pictures we took on our trip in Bordeaux – I think the pictures talk for themselves – what do you think? Do you like these pictures and did you already visit Bordeaux?

*thanks to the french tourisms board for the great weekend in Bordeaux.
