Visiting the famous Blue Lagoon Iceland

You should definitely visit the Blue Lagoon when you’re in Iceland. The milky water and everything around you is like a dream. When we were in Iceland we had tons of must sees. Additionally to the Northern Lights and the Golden Circus Tour, there was also the Blue Lagoon. We blocked a whole day for the Blue Lagoon to relax and enjoy. You should at least plan 4-7 hours for the blue lagoon. Even now, I can’t believe that I really visited this place. It was on my Travel Bucket List and now I’ve gone and did it. Iceland’s Blue Lagoon, is one of the most fascinating things ever.

Facts about the Blue Lagoon:

  • The lagoon was built artificially. You can compare it to the most beautiful hotel pool J Next to the lagoon there is the power-plant Svartsengi – they once did some drillings (for energy supply of the surrounding neighborhoods) and built the Blue Lagoon, which was only a byproduct.

  • The water is renewed every 40 hours.
  • The Blue Lagoon is 800years old!
  • The Blue Lagoon is a Geothermal Spa. You can stay overnight, go to the sauna, have food, shower etc.
  • The water temperature is 37-40°C (98-104°F) all year!
  • The geo-thermal water has 3 substances: mineral-salt, silica and seaweed
  • Although the water looks blue, it’s actually white.
  • Bathing in the water can help psoriasis or other skin diseases.

How does my hair react to the water?

Ich fand haufenweiße Artikel, dass das Wasser der Lagune die Haare total kaputt machen soll.

Your hair gets really dry and rough after bathing, but there are care tips for your hair. If you follow these instructions there will be no problem!

Follow these Instructions

  • Shower before bathing!
  • Wet your hair, use shampoo and a lot of Conditioner.

You don’t have to take hair care products with you. Conditioner and Shampoo is provided!

  • Don’t wash out the conditioner entirely.

INFO: If your hair is really sensitive, wash it with your own shampoo and conditioner and maybe try a hair bun.

Costs

We had the Comfort Ticket for the Blue Lagoon. You will be provided with a towel, a cosmetic set and a drink. If you want to pay less, try the Standard ticket for 35 EUR. Note that you have to bring your own towel then. You will also get a white mask to apply on your skin. We tried it twice and it felt really great.

Helpful Tips

  •  You can also buy a smartphone protection which is waterproof! It costs about 18 EUR.
  •  The weather is really changing fast – you can’t rely on the weather report. Don’t be disappointed if it rains. The Blue Lagoon is great, even if it’s raining or snowing.
