Instagram: Tips, Tricks, favorite Accounts & why I don’t do Shoutouts

We’ve known for a long time, that Instagram is the new social media star. I don’t want to miss it. I’m looking at my phone all the time now. Maybe too much even, but I love it. I love it, because my Instagram page has become a community. I got to know many new and super friendly people! Not only boring “comment for comments”, we’re in contact. We text and I formed some online friendships. We’re also planning to meet each other someday.

Sometimes I get annoying comments like #s4s, #f4f. I did some shoutouts in the beginning, until I realized it wasn’t worth it.. I was open to everyone with these shoutous, but some didn’t return the favor or deleted the picture overnight. Some even blocked me when I asked. That’s when I stopped, because it’s just not fair. Important: I don’t want to influence you with with this, as I had some good experiences as well. I wouldn’t have gotten to know some Instagirls, if I didn’t do shoutouts, but for now I won’t be doing anymore shoutouts.

Now to my Instagram Tips & Tricks:

  • Be active!
For those wanting comments and likes: you can’t be stingy about commenting or liking other peoples’ pictures. Other people will become aware of you and maybe visit your feed. It’s fun to communicate with others as well. Don’t spam and don’t just leave an emoji though, it’s just as annoying as “hey, look at my feed, I post great pictures about Fashion & Lifestyle“ #stopspamming

  • Quality over quantity
I used to post everything on Instagram. Today, I think about what I should post and if it’s pretty enough. I also consider how suitable the colors are and if the photo’s resolution is too low.
  • Be yourself
I still remember some pathetic comments, including “your Instagram looks like a child’s birthday.” Wow, thank you for this valuable comment. I’m not interested though. That doesn’t mean that I don’t accept criticism, but really? What’s that about? Instagram isn’t an overly serious platform for bankers, doctors or lawyers. I KNOW my community and I know what they like and if that’s tons of emojis in a text, so be it. That’s my problem. And if you don’t want to share so many personal things, that’s ok as well. YOU have to find your way!

  • Take a picture
I take most of my pictures without using the app itself. I use the normal camera feature, so that I can edit them afterwards.
  • Golden Hour
This tip is good for outfit pictures and for Instagram as well. The golden hour is the day where the sun goes down slowly. You can experiment with the light and the pictures look much brighter and friendlier.

  • Phone or camera?
It’s common for most of the big shots to post pictures they took with the DSLR. A lot of cameras have wifi, so it’s easy to transfer your picture to your mobile. I still prefer to use mobile phone pictures, because they seem to be more likeable.

  • Tag Brands
A lot of Instagram users scroll around the tagged brands and if you link them they won’t have to ask you. If you tag a brand, it can find you as well. If they share your picture, you might get new followers.

Last but not least: For those hating now – please spare your time. I don’t pretend to be Instagramfamous or something like that. I don’t have to justify myself. If you don’t like the post, then close it. Have a nice day!
